§ 24-67. Curbing specifications.

  • Curbing shall be of concrete; and in the use as combined curb and gutter or straight curb, shall be constructed in accordance with the plans and specifications now on file in the office of the street manager and with the following additional specifications:

    (1)

    Material shall be of the same grade and quality and mixed in the same manner as provided in section 24-66.

    (2)

    The curb, or curb and gutter, must be laid true to line and grade, by means and forms composed of dressed lumber not less than two (2) inches thick, firmly stacked in place and well braced. The core shall be composed of one (1) part cement, two and one-half (2½) parts sand, and five (5) parts rock or gravel, and shall be well and thoroughly rammed as provided for the bottom course of sidewalks, the top coat or face shall be one (1) inch thick, of the same material and proportions as provided for the top course of sidewalks. It shall be put on the core while the same is green and plastic, shaped with a metal form to the proper surface and cross section, and steel troweled and brush finished before it has set. The material for each course must be in place within thirty (30) minutes after it is mixed. While still plastic the curb and curb and gutter must be cut entirely through at intervals six (6) feet square.

    (3)

    The contractor, if required by the street manager, must take up and properly replace at any time within twelve (12) months from the date of construction any curb or curb and gutter, or any part thereof, which is not true to line and grade or which does not comply with these specifications or which shall fail or become defective. No curb or curb and gutter or sidewalk shall be constructed unless a permit has first been obtained therefor from the street manager. No permit shall be granted to any contractor who shall fail or refuse to replace or repair any curb or curb and gutter or sidewalk previously constructed by him, and which has been condemned by the street manager. Such sidewalks shall be of concrete, shall commence two (2) feet from the property line and be five (5) feet in width, and such sidewalks and curb shall be laid on the proper grade as established by ordinance, and shall be properly laid, well built and in accordance with specifications set forth in section 24-66, and carefully maintained and be subject to the approval of the street manager.
