§ 26-27. Traffic operations committee.

  • (a)

    Appointment of members; purview of authority. The traffic operations committee shall be appointed by the mayor and approved by the city council. This committee shall consist of such technical people as is deemed necessary by the mayor to assure compliance with appropriate rules and regulations currently in force. All matters pertaining to signs, signals, markings and traffic devices shall be reviewed by the traffic operations committee. The traffic operations committee will base its recommendations on the most current state statutes, the "Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices" and good general practices for traffic control.

    (b)

    Recommendations of committee. Recommendations made by the traffic operations committee will be forwarded to the city council for action. The city council will make the final decision on traffic matters. All other signs, signals, markings and devices not covered by the "Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices" are to be placed at the discretion of the traffic operations committee, and approved by the city council.

    (c)

    Applications for traffic signs, etc. All applications or requests for traffic signs, markings, signals and devices shall be filed with the traffic division of the police department. Those requests will be forwarded to the traffic operations committee for consideration.

    (d)

    Meetings of committee. Meetings will be held by the traffic operations committee on a monthly basis to consider applications and requests.
