§ 8-27. Record of lots kept by sexton.

  • (a)

    The sexton shall from time-to-time make report to the city council as to the need for spaces to be set aside for the internment of paupers, and secure council approval for the dedication of an adequate number to meet the need. Pauper is defined to be a deceased person whose estate lacks the means to pay for a burial space, and who has no family or kin in the area. A pauper shall be interned in a simple grave-side service without tent or chairs.

    (b)

    The sexton is authorized to accept from Jefferson County, Arkansas, a sum equal to the amount actually charged by the city's contractor for the service of opening and closing a grave, as payment for a pauper's internment.
