Chapter 7. BUILDINGS AND BUILDING REGULATIONS |
Article II. INSPECTION DEPARTMENT |
Division 1. GENERALLY |
§ 7-27. Duties.
In addition to the enforcement of this chapter, the following members of the inspection department shall have the duties herein prescribed:
(1)
The chief inspector shall have direct general supervision over the entire inspection department and all other duties and responsibilities given to the various branches of the inspection department as the chief inspector may be licensed or otherwise qualified to perform.
(2)
The building inspector and all inspectors cross-certified and/or otherwise trained in building regulations shall be charged with the supervision of the issuance of building, razing and removing permits, notices of violations, condemnation notices, the enforcement of all regulations of the building code and all state and local codes pertaining to buildings and structures and keeping of records of his unit.
(3)
The plumbing inspector and all inspectors cross-certified and/or otherwise trained in plumbing regulations shall be charged with the supervision of the issuance of plumbing, gas, water and sewer connection permits; the enforcement of all state and local codes pertaining to plumbing, gas, water and sewer installations; and keeping of records of his unit and the issuance of notices of plumbing violations, condemnation notices, and razing and removing permits.
(4)
The electrical inspector and all inspectors cross-certified and/or otherwise trained in electrical regulations shall be charged with the supervision of the issuance of electrical permits and the enforcement of the regulations of the electrical code and local codes pertaining to the construction and maintenance of electrical wiring and apparatus; keeping of records of his unit, and the issuance of notices of electrical violations, condemnation notices and razing and removing permits.
(5)
The mechanical inspector and all inspectors cross-certified and/or otherwise trained in mechanical regulations shall be charged with the supervision of the issuance of mechanical permits; the enforcement of all state and local codes pertaining to mechanical installations and apparatus, notices of mechanical violations, condemnation notices, and razing and removing permits.
(6)
The housing inspector and all inspectors cross-certified and/or otherwise trained in housing regulations shall be charged with the enforcement of the housing code and local codes pertaining to existing housing, maintenance of property, notices of housing violations, condemnation notices, and razing and removing permits.
(7)
The administrative assistant shall be responsible for duties assigned by the director of the inspection department, including but not limited to maintaining records of activities of the department as assigned by the director; coordinating daily activities involving inspection; dealing with the public in a problem-solving environment; representing the inspection department and promoting a more positive image of the department within the community, including working with neighborhood groups in meeting their specific needs; developing and maintaining an interactive web site for the department to allow access by the public to information; and working with the director to improve efficiencies and systems for the department.
