§ 7-244. Permits; inspection fees.

  • (a)

    Before beginning any plumbing work in the city or on any properties connected to the public water supply outside the city limits, the person installing same shall apply to the plumbing inspector and obtain a permit to do such work. Only those persons authorized (master plumber) may be issued permits. A permit may be issued to a property owner to install plumbing in a single-family residence provided the property owner does the work himself, that the building is owned and occupied by such owner as his home and that all plumbing so installed shall be in full compliance with all provisions of this article. Plumbing may be done without permits only when rough-in pipes are not disturbed (exception: Water heater replacements require permits and inspections), such as replacing fixtures (not moving to new location), minor repairs to faucets, valves, pipes, appliances, removing of stoppages, or as otherwise provided for in this article.

    (b)

    Applications for permits shall be accompanied by fees in accordance with the following schedule:

    Inspection Fee

    (c)

    The penalty for failure to obtain a permit for work as called for in this section shall require the violator to pay a fee equal to three (3) times the applicable inspection and permit fees which should have been paid for any work done in violation thereof. This penalty may be in addition to the penalty of any fine or violation imposed pursuant to section 1-8.
